Termite control and anay treatment

anay, the Filipino word for termite

Stop Termites Before They Cause Damage

Termites are one of the most destructive pests in the Philippines, silently eating through wood, furniture, and even building foundations. Left untreated, they can cause thousands of pesos in property damage.

At Pest Control Pampanga, we carry out termite inspection, treatment, and prevention, serving clients across Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Tarlac, and Olongapo.

Anay, and the two ways a professional deals with it

Anay is the word most people here type into a phone before they type anything else, and it covers the subterranean termites that do nearly all the damage in Central Luzon. They come up through the soil, so the treatment goes into the soil.

Soil treatment means drilling and injecting a liquid termiticide into the ground around and under the foundations, which puts a treated band between the colony and the house. On a building that has not gone up yet this is done to the ground first and costs a fraction of doing it later. On a house already standing it is done from the outside in, through the slab where it has to be.

Baiting works the other way round. Stations go in around the perimeter, the workers find them, and what they carry back goes to the colony rather than to the few insects you can see. It is slower and it needs checking, which is why it suits a property where drilling is awkward or where the nest is somewhere nobody can reach.

Which one a house needs is a question about the house, not about the pest. That is what an inspection is for.

How termites get from the soil into the wood

1 2 3 4
  1. 1The colony lives in the soil, sometimes well below the surface and some distance from the house.
  2. 2Workers build shelter tubes of soil, saliva and bits of wood, up the foundation to the first wood they can reach.
  3. 3They eat the wood from the inside. The tunnels are hollow, closed in and follow the grain, so the surface can look sound.
  4. 4About 30 cm of concrete or coarse sand between the soil and any wood of the house is the barrier UC IPM recommends keeping.

Why Termites Are a Serious Threat

  • Termites can remain hidden for years before being detected.
  • They weaken the structural integrity of homes and buildings.
  • DIY treatments rarely work for large infestations.
  • A single colony can contain millions of termites.

Termite Control FAQs

How do I know if I have termites?

Signs include hollow-sounding wood, discarded wings, mud tunnels, or visible damage to walls and furniture.

Is termite treatment safe for my family and pets?

Not as a flat yes. Termite treatment goes into the soil around and under the building, into drilled holes that are sealed afterwards, or into bait stations set in the ground. Children and pets stay off treated soil and away from drilled areas until the product has dried and for the time the label states, which we tell you on the day. Before we start we tell you which product goes where and show you its label, as the US EPA, Citizen's Guide to Pest Control and Pesticide Safety advises. If anyone, or a pet, touches or swallows a treated surface or a bait, follow the first aid on the label, wash skin with soap and water, and call a doctor or your vet with the product name.

How often should I get termite inspections?

We recommend at least once a year for prevention and early detection.
